My name is Lizzy and I'm currently going for the World Record Starburst Wrapper Chain! I know it sounds silly, but I've been working on my current chain for about 11 years now. It started off very, very slow and only came to about three feet in the first about 5 years (very slow!), but in the past few years, the chain has really taken off! I've had a lot of help from a lot of people including coworkers, friends and family. The current length of the chain is a healthy 65 ft with over 1200 wrappers still to fold and add. I recently submitted my entry into Guinness to SET the record (since there was no record previously set) but I'm nowhere near done with this thing!
I've been looking for more ways to help make the chain grow- I've even emailed Starburst/Wrigley/Mars asking if they had any "dud" wrappers that they would be willing to send out- Dud as in wrappers that would otherwise be trashed due to misprinting, ripping or other issues. Unfortunately, they are unable to send anything because they do in fact get a lot of requests just like that and if they sent them to one person, they'd have to send them to everyone and be fair, and I understand that.
So this blog is an attempt to collect more wrappers from the crowd that I have not yet tried- complete strangers! I know it's a long shot and I'm willing to take it, but this is a "call" for all your Starburst wrappers! Even if they're slightly torn or crumbled into a ball, chances are, I've worked with wrappers in worse shape and made them work. I know it's a random request and to some, it's just trash, but you know what they say! One person's trash is another person's treasure!
What will happen when if you decide to donate the wrappers? Easy- I've kept a (long) list of all the people who have helped in some way shape or form. Once I get any confirmation that the chain has made it into the record book, you will receive a shout-out as well as a Thank You card in return. I know it's not much, but I want to send something in return just to say thanks!
So, how can you donate?
Easy!
Thanks to the wrappers being small and rather flexible, they are easily sent via envelope and standard USPS- unless you decide to send 138,762,783 wrappers which might require a small box... in the comment section, let me know if you are interested in helping a girl out and I will get into contact with you. It's not that I don't want to put my home address online publicly, but really, I don't think that's a good idea at this current moment in time- no offense internet, you can just be sneaky sometimes.
Here is a picture of the chain so far (not the best picture) and I'll be sure to update the picture as it grows!
Thanks for any and all help and if you have any question, please feel free to ask! Even if no donation is made, thanks for taking the time to check it out! Spread the word and the love (of Starburst!)
